PROJECT DETAILS
Skapar takes pride in transforming dreams into reality.
Introduction
In the heart of Northeast Minneapolis, Andy and Becka’s home underwent a remarkable metamorphosis. What began as a project to address falling ceiling tiles evolved into a comprehensive redesign, culminating in an aesthetically pleasing and functional living space.
The Challenge
The initial concern centered around falling ceiling tiles in the second floor of a 1 ½ story home. Andy and Becka desired a bedroom and bathroom on the same level, coupled with a seating area and game table. This vision necessitated the addition of a new dormer on the north side of their home, demanding a restructuring of the existing roof system.
Engineering Marvel
Skapar rose to the challenge by implementing an intricate plan involving the transfer of loads to the main level walls through a network of steel and engineered beams. Additionally, gussets were added to the rafters as mandated by the architect and engineer, ensuring structural integrity. This engineering marvel laid the foundation for the envisioned changes.
Functional and Aesthetic Enhancements
The new dormer became a haven, featuring a bathroom and a delightful seating area with windows – Stanley’s (the dog) new favorite spot for neighborhood surveillance. Skapar seamlessly integrated new built-ins to complement existing furniture, incorporating tiles from a local mosaic tile company as a border in the bathroom. The result was a cozy retreat for the homeowners, complete with a game table for leisurely evenings.
Local Artisan Touch
Skapar’s commitment to community involvement was evident in the incorporation of perfectly matched stained wood framing and trim work along with custom tile work. This not only added a unique touch to the project but also supported local artisans, contributing to the vibrant cultural tapestry of Northeast Minneapolis.

The project was successfully completed in the spring of 2023, spanning a duration of 18 weeks. The investment ranged between $225,000 and $275,000, reflecting the meticulous craftsmanship and attention to detail that went into transforming this Northeast Minneapolis home.
