PROJECT DETAILS
Complete Kitchen Remodel, Reimagined Dining Room, and Refined Common Spaces
Introduction and Goal
This project encompassed a complete kitchen remodel and build-out, the reimagining of a formerly underutilized dining room into a walk-in butler’s pantry, and the refinement of the breezeway and hallway area at the home’s main entry, merging functionality with elevated design to enrich the homeowner’s daily experience.
The Challenge
The main challenges identified in the Eden Prairie project were:
-
Limited Kitchen Space: The kitchen’s tight layout restricted movement, making everyday tasks and entertaining a struggle.
-
Unutilized Dining Room: The adjacent dining room was rarely used, representing wasted square footage.
-
Cluttered Living Spaces: Everyday appliances contributed to visual and physical clutter.
-
Family Room Layout Issues: The layout inhibited effective furniture arrangement and left the space underused.
-
Understated Entry Hallway: The breezeway/hallway area lacked visual impact and organizational efficiency.
Our Process
In keeping with Skäpar’s client-first ethos, we deployed a holistic and collaborative approach:
1. Listening First
We began by understanding the routines and goals of the Eden Prairie family, focusing not on upselling, but on maximizing the utility of their existing spaces.
2. Strategic Repurposing
Upon review, we repurposed the unused dining room into a walk-in butler’s pantry. This freed up space in the kitchen for a central island—eliminating congestion near the dinette and ensuring an open flow.
3. Butler’s Pantry Upgrade
By relocating key appliances, including the oven, microwave, coffee maker, crock pot, and air fryer to the butlers pantry, we streamlined the kitchen’s main area, keeping everyday clutter out of sight and optimizing accessible workspace.
4. Entry and Hallway Refinement
Recognizing the potential at the home’s front entry, we refined the breezeway/hallway space by introducing a custom built-in bench that merges design and function. Featuring a tambour front, wallpapered back, and an integrated mirror, the bench elevates the entryway, creating a memorable first impression that’s as practical as it is visually striking.
5. Design Cohesion & Cabinetry Improvements
We extended the tambour design element to the kitchen’s hood surround, infusing the space with cohesive character. With painted cabinetry and customized staining—guided by the client’s vision—the kitchen achieved a brighter and more inviting feel. Meanwhile, the entryway and lower cabinets were finished with tailored stain options that added warmth and style.
The Results and Transformation
