Condo Office and Bedroom Refresh
Introduction and Goal
The Donoghue condo project in Uptown Minneapolis showcases Skäpar Design & Build’s commitment to informed collaboration and prioritizing client needs. The homeowner sought to maximize the usefulness, comfort, and aesthetic of their condo, emphasizing functionality for both work and creativity. Previous layouts limited the potential of key spaces, while dated hallway finishes distracted from the home’s overall appeal. Our design team worked closely with the client to create a refresh that balances everyday needs with a vision for elevated style.
The Challenge
- Space Constraints & Inefficient Layout: The office/spare bedroom felt confined by outdated cabinetry and an imposing Murphy bed, restricting flexibility and creative use.
- Desire for Cohesion & Renewal: Worn wallpaper and paint in the hallway, bathroom, and bedroom detracted from the condo’s modern potential.
Our Process
Skäpar approaches each project by truly listening to our clients and uncovering both visible and hidden hurdles:
1. Understanding the Vision
We met with the homeowner to assess their aspirations for a flexible, inspiring workspace that supports craft and productivity while serving as a welcoming retreat.
2. Smart Space Planning
We proposed removing unnecessary cabinetry and the Murphy bed, allowing for the installation of a generous craft table and redesigned flow. The space was opened up to encourage natural movement and usage for both work and leisure.
3. Hallway & Room Refresh
Old wallpaper was carefully removed and every surface—hallway, bathroom, and bedroom—was refinished with fresh, welcoming paint. This update unified the aesthetic and revitalized daily living.
4. Premium Cabinetry Installation
Custom cabinetry by Artistic Visions Cabinetry was installed for tailored storage and display, blending form and function to suit the homeowner’s style.
5. Collaborative Design
The design vision was crafted by Jessica Cook and the JLC team, blending personal touches with sensible solutions.
